Canon will start selling a new device that triples as a computer mouse, a calculator, and a numeric key pad starting late July. The LT-100TKM will be available in black or white for $32.
When folded, the battery-powered device can be used as an optical mouse (1,000 dpi). When you open it, the LT-100KTM turns into a 10-key numeric keypad. It can also be used as a stand-alone pocket calculator.
Canon says they expect to sell 15,000 units of the Japan-only device in one year.

The Amazon Kindle, Amazon's foray into hand held e-book reading devices, was released in November. The reader splashed onto the scene with a cover photo on Newsweek and Amazon hoped the Kindle would do for digital-reading-on-the-go what the ipod did for digital music. That is, make it a viable concept and business, replete with enthusiastic users.
However, there's not a whole lot of evangelizing going on around the Kindle.
Some people appreciate the palm-sized smallness of the Kindle, while others deride its small keyboard and awkwardly designed casing. The opinions are mixed and there are plenty of them.
Once you have the Kindle, you can visit Amazon's e-book store, where you can purchase brand new books for $9.99, which is a discount from what new hardcovers generally cost. Even though in this proposition you don't end up owning a tangible tree-made book, you get to enjoy the reading of it. But that brings up a principal issue for e-book readers.
Do people want to read books the same way they read blogs and news stories, via a computer screen? A lot of the issues that people have had with the Kindle--that's it's ugly, that the black and white screen isn't up to par, that the keyboard and scroll wheel aren't that well designed, and that it's too expensive--may stem from the fact that reading books on the Kindle e-book reader is not the same as reading a paper-bound book. The experience is not the same.
You get the information, but part of the joy is stripped from the experience. Another issue is that we expect a lot out of our hand held devices these days. The iphone has set a new standard--and that's a phone.
An e-book reader should have a high degree of interactivity with other Kindle owners that are friends. It should look as advanced and appealing as an iphone. It should be able to do most of what a high-tech cell phone can do in addition to the e-book reading functionality. It seems like it does too little if you can't use it to access maps, the yellow pages, and search engines. For $399, it should do some of these things. At the very least, you should be able to do Internet searches.
Computers have become so intertwined in our work and personal lives, that it seems logical that an e-book reader would be the next step. And maybe it is. But it shouldn't just be an e-book reader. It should be an e-book reader and a cell phone. I think the Kindle's designers misread the psychology of an e-book reader.
It's not bibliophiles who will be using this thing. It's the geek who wants his hand-held device to do more for him than he expects, and that he can wow his friends who don't have one.
Surprisingly or unsurprisingly, the Amazon Kindle is sold out. Or at least that's what it says on Amazon.
The Kindle makes sense on paper. But that's the problem.

I tend to chuckle a little when I see a new iPod accessory, because there is such an overabundance of all different types of them. Any new one that comes out really has to do something different to stand out from the rest. Some prefer to do so with extremely high quality sound and others decide to go for a design that just looks a bit different from the rest. This Rotating Alarm Clock works for all those with the fancy new iPod Touch or iPhone. However, don’t worry, the alarm clock allows for you to plug in other devices as well, it just won’t sit on the dock like the iPod Touch does.
The dock is meant to allow you to be able to flip it to watch a movie or sit it straight up when you just want to fall asleep to your favorite tunes. It has many of the usual features of an alarm clock, a backup battery when your power dies and of course that precious snooze button. It features a Expanded Bass and Reson8 speaker and a jack for all those other audio devices.

The MP3 pen that we wrote about last month has been updated. It now comes with built-in FM tuner functionality and four times the memory.
You’ll be amazed at the ability to record hours of audio from the high quality MIC, carry data safely from the office and still sign the bill at a restaurant for dinner.

The first products to be announced were a line of accessories for cellular phones known by the Active Crystals brand name. They featured items that were designed to look more like jewelry than the standard mobile phone headsets, which tend to be made with plastic and rubber pieces in a neutral color, with the occasional addition of metallic accents.
Now, the companies have announced a new set of additions to their Active Crystals lineup: USB flash drives. Each of the four models is trimmed in silver and prominently features a multitude of glimmering Swarovski crystals. The Heart Ware and Heart Beat models feature heart-shaped pendants which open to reveal the USB connector. One half of the heart is silver, while the other half is covered in crystal. A cord is included to wear around your neck, but adding a silver necklace in its place would probably add favorably to the look. The Lock In and Lock Out models are designed to be attached to a keychain and are constructed as one piece accordingly.
All four of the models are expected to ship with 1GB of storage and feature built-in password protection. So, even if your drive is stolen, the thieves won't have access to the potentially more valuable information contained inside these gems.

Let's be honest there is nothing more exciting than finding a new gadget that can at the very least keep you entertained and at the very most revolutionise the way you do things. Okay I admit that these are not easy criteria against which you can judge a new gadget.
I guess on reflection the gadget might not have to revolutionise your life but nevertheless it should without doubt use new technology and make you raise a smile. Some of the best examples of new gadgets are the range of USB gadgets that have been released onto the market.
For those technophobes out there the USB or Universal Serial Bus is, put simply, a way of connecting an external device to your computer. A lot of people these days carry around small USB pens that hold information at play the same role that the floppy disc used to.
Nowadays a great deal of the equipment that is used alongside a computer such as a keyboard and the mouse can be connected this way. And in the gadget world many toys have been created that utilise this technology.
I was recently given a USB pole dancing woman that I have called Beatrice. Beatrice dances every time I type a word into my keyboard. She also keeps count of the number of words I write in a day - she's not just a pretty face then! My colleagues and I find it hilarious although I don't think my boss is too impressed when she stays quiet for half a day - a big giveaway if you're not writing!
Anyway here is an insight into some of the best USB offerings that I have found available in the market.
USB BoxerI recently came across the USB boxer. This six inch tall guy stands on your desk and pounds away at a punch bag at the rate at which you punch. The device comes with unbelievable sound effects that sound on the impact of the gloves to the punch bag and makes authentic ringside noises.
The software package includes some games in which you can enact a boxing bout and the action on screen is relayed and played out by the man in front of you. Pitched as a great way to work out some aggression this USB gadget really packs a punch!
USB putting greenThe USB putting green is a great way to play golf against your workmates without even leaving the office. You don't need a silly dress code just a slightly silly sense of humour. It is a miniature version of the conventional ball returning putt returner.
The aim of the game is to putt into the centre of the device and the ball is subsequently spat back at you. It comes with two miniature putters and fortunately six tiny balls - there is no excuse for losing them then - especially considering you are unlikely to have a water hazard or bunker on your desk.
USB DogOkay this takes the prize for the funniest, yet at the same time, most tasteless of all the USB gadgets I have come across. The dog is attached to a USB device which, when connected to the computer, humps away like a dog on heat. The marketing men say that your computer has done a great deal for you and that it's about time you gave something back. I'm not sure this is exactly what they meant but very funny nevertheless!

Life is all about technology and gadgets now. It is an interesting observation that now concept gadget designs are given more importance and consideration than those that exist in real. Perhaps the reason for this is the fast pace of human evolution and our ability to get as much diverse as possible.
Over the past year I have come across some amazing concept gadget designs some of which have the ability to make it to production while some are so idealistic that we may not see them in reality even in the next 100 years but in all cases the ideals are really cool and mind blowing. Check them out :
1. Mobile Phone Instant Concept
Call it the recyclable mobile phone or the disposable mobile well thats up to you but it is definitely a cool concept gadget design. It can be branded with company logos and casing and its paper-like nature makes it disposable enough to be thrown away after making at least one call. Perhaps this concept gadget design is one of the not-coming-in-the-next-100-years kind.
2. Swatch “Infinity” Concept Watch
Trust me! this watch is like no other that you have seen before. It is a concept watch design presented by Swatch under the name “Infinity” and features video, mp3 music and photo sharing. The concept is not too idealist considering we have seen the LG Phone Watch already.
3. Nokia Aeon Concept
The Nokia Aeon Concept Design features the full-surface touch technology. Means that the whole phone is just a piece of glass operated by hand gestures and motions. Plus it senses the environment and changes its look accordingly.
4. Napkin PC
This is another one of those concept gadget designs that won’t enter the real world unless some sort of breakthrough or miracle happens. Perhaps in the future computers will be cheaper than napkins and when such a time arrives we will have the napkin PCs.
5. Vista Fridge Magnet Concept
Have you ever used fridget magnets? Of course! they are those little useless piece of magnets used as placeholders for sticky notes and other useless stuff. Well things have changed now with the Vista Fridget Magnet Concept as it will allow you to watch movies, listen to music, keep notes right on your
desk fridget-top.
6. Nokia 888 Social Phone Concept
Well, phones are already meant to help you socialize and interact with humans but what if if your phone was flexible enough to be a part of your daily routine and activities? Nokia 888 does the same for you. This bracelet-like concept phone will take any form depending upon your mood and flavor. It will notify you about your dates and important events and will be there for you whenever you want it.
7. Solar Powered Notebook Concept
Notebook computers always fall on power whenever you need them the most. Charging the notebook batteries again and again can be quite tiresome and boring job. Worry not! because this Solar Powered Notebook is designed to run using solar energy. The built-in solar panel acts as a power supply to the notebook and even if notebook is low on batteries, the sun is always there to power it up.
8. iRing
iRing is for the iPod fans and addicts who just can’t do anything without listening to music on their iPod. The ring is just like a normal ring that you can wear on any one of your fingers. Through bluetooth connectivity, the ring will allow you to control music playback and volume on your iPod wirelessly.
9. Vaio Zoom
The Vaio Zoom concept notebook computer takes Holographic technology to a next level by making a completely transparent computer architecture. The keyboard goes opaque when the computer is turned off and the screen becomes totally transparent.
10. P-Per Concept Mobile
It is definitely here to beat the iPhone. The P-Per Concept Mobile is idealized on a 4-layer structure where everything is about “touch” and “execute”. Its form factor and style is what blows my mind away. Also, it has support for Wi-Fi and live video feeds.

The new Philips GoGear SA5225 digital audio/video player just cleared the FCC hurdle. The player handles WMV and MPEG4 video files as well as WMA and AAC audio files. It also has a picture viewer, and is capable of displaying album art. There's an on-board FM radio receiver, while the recording utility lets you record not only voice memos but also FM audio. The GoGear player can also stream audio and transfer files using Bluetooth wireless technology. The player features an Options button which throws up useful options depending on the current menu, as well as volume controls at the bottom. There's a 5-way control point that lets you play/pause, skip forward/back and scroll up/down. It comes with a USB connector to aid in data transfer. The Philips GoGear SA5225 can be charged over USB, which is convenient. It takes a good 4 hours for a complete charge (80% charge takes 2 hours).
